Extra WiFi capacity in the festive season makes Edinburgh the place to be…
We’re proud to announce that once again, we will be beaming extra wireless connectivity across Scotland’s capital this winter in preparation for the hundreds of thousands of revellers expected at Edinburgh’s Christmas and Hogmanay festivities. Users will be able to enjoy unlimited free access to the internet, thus overcoming the poor mobile coverage associated with big crowds during the peak festive season.
Edinburgh’s Christmas promises a spectacular six-week season of festive entertainment in the heart of the city including Christmas markets, shows and a giant advent calendar. Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is one of the world’s greatest new year celebrations and this year features Rag’n’Bone Man, The Human League and Huey Morgan.
IntechnologyWiFi has a 10-year concession with the City of Edinburgh Council to provide free public WiFi throughout the city centre. As the city’s trusted digital partner, we will be installing additional access points throughout the city centre to accommodate the large increase in visitor numbers. This will ensure that revellers can share messages, pictures and videos with friends and family across the world without disruption to data connectivity.
The network is central to the council’s plans for growing the city economy and encouraging residents and visitors to stay longer and increase their spend. Charlie Wood and Ed Bartlam, directors of Underbelly which produces Edinburgh’s Christmas and Edinburgh’s Hogmanay on behalf of City of Edinburgh Council, said: “Edinburgh is one of the world’s top winter destinations, and the enthusiasm of residents and visitors to share that with friends and family is fantastic. Having extra WiFi support in place will show the world that this is the place to be.”
The extra wireless connectivity also represents an opportunity for businesses to raise their visibility among residents and visitors over Christmas and the New Year. Local businesses will be able to use our platform to ‘plug in’ to Edinburgh, reaching hundreds of thousands of potential customers through reliable Internet connections. Whether banks, retailers, or tourism companies, businesses can partner with inTechnologyWifi to connect with mass audiences or targeted group segments, presenting an opportunity to spearhead growth.
Nearly 500,000 people have registered for our free WiFi service since we launched in Edinburgh a year ago, which shows the strong consumer demand and expectation for fast and reliable connectivity. We are investing in enhanced coverage this Christmas and New Year to make sure that everybody has the best possible digital experience of this magical city during the festive season.
IntechnologyWiFi’s connected digital infrastructure creates a secure and safe platform for consumers, businesses, and technologies to engage and interact with each other, allowing local councils to benefit from data-driven insights just like Moscow.
