Download 2015: Let there be free WiFi (and rock)!
Download Festival fans gobbled up more than 2TB of data in three days over intechnologyWiFi’s free WiFi network
Over 90,000 fans took advantage of the seamless, ‘always on’, free WiFi coverage provided by intechnologyWiFi at the recent Download Festival (12–14 June), with the network serving up over 2 terabytes (TB) of data over the three days. That’s the equivalent of 11 million photos, 200,000 high-quality videos, or over 25 million tweets!
With loyal music and festival fans itching to share and promote their experiences online in real-time at the UK’s most popular rock and heavy metal music festival, intechnologyWiFi equipped them with access to completely free, high-speed internet, without time or bandwidth limitations.
Download was the first of four summer festivals intechnologyWiFi will provide its seamless free WiFi solution to this year, the others being Latitude Festival in July, and Reading Festival and Creamfields in August. This enviable line-up of festivals secured for 2015 reflects the significant experience intechnologyWiFi gained at similar events last year. The company supported the WiFi provision for Hyde Park Festival and T In the Park in 2014, providing over half a million people access to share their photos and videos online at the click of a button.
As intechnologyWiFi owns all of its hardware and software – and possess the in-house expertise required to design, install and maintain a seamless public WiFi network from conception to completion – it is able to tailor the technology to create network capacity, even for high-density locations, while ensuring the service is completely free for end users.
With increasing numbers of festival fans seeking to connect immediately, in real-time, with the wider world by posting updates, photos and videos to Facebook, Twitter and the like, it is critical the seamless WiFi infrastructure is in place to allow them to do so. However, the issue faced by event organisers is that common connectivity infrastructure – such as 3G – simply isn’t up to the challenge. While 4G offers improved connectivity, users are likely to encounter exactly the same problems when trying to connect, as the number of users continues to increase.
Our unique free WiFi solution equips festival-goers with access to the high-quality, always-on internet coverage they crave to connect them to the wider world.

Glen Littlewood, Marketing Director of Live Nation UK – which manages Download and Creamfields – said: ‘The partnership with intechnologyWiFi provides the opportunity for an unprecedented understanding of our festival audiences, helping us to deliver a more tailored, safer experience, while optimum WiFi connectivity allows fans to engage seamlessly on digital channel.’
It’s safe to say that intechnologyWiFi truly rocked Download. Now full steam ahead to Latitude in July!
